3rd Horseman!

Who knows? This is probably going to change a lot. Something about it unsettles me in the 'incomplete' way. The BG is going to be a deep, inky black. Maybe that's the solidity it lacks.

Maybe it's in the human form, like it needs some kind of oddity.

I hear you on the "incomplete" thing you mentioned. Seems a wee bit empty just to the left of the giraffe's bony neck. You might be right about it just lacking the background black though.

I think true black might even be too heavy for it, though I guess that depends on the human, as you mentioned. Also, the butterflies and the ribcage of the giraffe are and will be so delicate - while such high contrast will heighten that...hm. Maybe just a little bit of mottling/texture in the background, some grey just to keep things a tiny bit less harsh.

Philogiston_5 has a point about the empty space - setting your subject off-center creates complications like that. Which isn't to say that there aren't solutions, though.

The BG will probably be blacks & greys, since I was planning on dashing bits of white into there for some kind of texture & to thicken the ink.

I actually don't mind big areas of open space or slanted compositions, especially for THIS, but we'll see how it goes. I can always paint something there later.

Yeah, especially if you want to keep the (somewhat?) realistic scale, and the ribcage unfettered for emphasis (like, the human could be riding it, but that would clutter and cover).

I also have a visual similarity/symmetry/rhythm obsession, so don't mind me.

I considered a riding figure but came to the same conclusions as you. And it NEEDS a rider of some kind, 'cause it's horseMEN, not HORSES. Or giraffemen. Who's keeping track?

It's a small giraffe, also, but intentionally so.

I have the same 'similarity' preoccupation, but I'm trying to kick it in the face for this series and say 'I'm doin' whatever the hell I wanna do, sucka'!' to my brain.

Time to let this eat my brain while I'm at work all day! And then 4 days off to worry about it! GOd, I love being obsessed with ART instead of toys or anger! It's a first!

I totally figured it was a baby giraffe :D ...which adds an interesting layer to the symbolism, if you let your brain go there. Ooh, it's a really bad place to go, too. Maaaybe later...

I know right, it's like DOWN AESTHETICS DOWN RARGH

I mentioned this to a friend or two - using one's lunch break is a great time for conceptualizing. Like, even the anticipation of knowing that I'm going to do some creative-center-tapping at lunch gets my brain percolating in the morning. So, so rad.
